April Fools Day: Exploring Poems Monday at Patrick Heath Library

Howdy Boerne citizens! Today is Monday, April Fool’s Day, and I drove over to the Patrick Heath Public Library to attend the Poems Monday group, Boerne Beat, facilitated by Robin Stauber, adult services librarian.

As mentioned previously, I am accustomed to business and technical writing throughout my US military career. However, I have always wanted to try learning creative writing – so this was a perfect opportunity for me to start. By the way, this is not my April Fool’s.

Today, April 1, 2024, the theme was “Poems We Hate”. Everyone shared by reading their selected poem while I just listened. I learned about the 5-7-5 or Haiku that Mary shared. Another active participant, an architecture major at UTSA, recited her poem, and she also shared her poem that she wrote at age 13.

I think this is one of the gems that’s worth checking whether you’re a novice like me or more experienced like the others. The group, Boerne Beat, meets once a month on Mondays. Hence, Poems Monday. For more information, visit Patrick Heath Public Library, and who knows, you may just discover hidden gems like me.
